PARC is a community of NNHS educators who work together to bravely examine our teaching practices and our relationships with other educators through the lens of antiracism. The group aims to:
examine the implicit biases and the racist practices that exist in our own beliefs, language, and teaching practices
disrupt racist practices when we detect them in a manner that preserves the dignity of all people, inspires introspection, supports personal growth, and results in systemic change of our school culture
Supported by the Office of Human Rights, this is a racial affinity group for staff members who identify as Black, Latinx, Asian American Pacific Islander, Indigenous, and multiracial. Staff members come together and co-create a safe space to discuss issues of race and racial identity, self-care, experiences in a majority-white school, among other topics.
Supported by the Office of Human Rights, this is a racial affinity group for staff members who identify as Asian American Pacific Islander.
The OHR offers support to students and staff members around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), anti-racism, and social justice. Initiatives include:
creating and facilitating anti-racism and anti-bias lessons
facilitating professional development for staff members
facilitating student webinars around anti-racism
supporting individual students and staff members around issues of DEI
The OHR has developed and facilitated workshops for staff members and students on RID. Part of this professional development involves a “train the trainer” element, and offers further PD for cohorts of staff members who have been trained in RID.
The OHR supports this program designed to support Black and Latinx students in upper level classes. Based on research by Claude Steele around the potentially negative effects of stereotype threat, this program creates cohorts for Black and Latinx students in upper level classes to disrupt stereotype threat. Additionally, the OHR offers PD for staff members who teach clustered classes.
