OUR JUNETEENTH 2021 CELEBRATION WAS A BLAST...

We ended the 2021 school year with Newton’s first city-wide, family-friendly Juneteenth celebration. The event was an incredible success, with over 500 people joining us! Families enjoyed dance, vocal, and spoken word performances by the Aashka Dance Company, DJ Ricky Groov, Africano Waltham, and more. NNHS students shared their inspiring artwork, and kids of all ages were entertained by The FunFactor. We also enjoyed Caribbean American food from Fresh Food Generation, ice cream from Tipping Cow and more red velvet cupcakes than we could count from Stop and Shop. A unique shopping experience provided an opportunity to support local Black entrepreneurs, and fabulous balloon structures added to the festive atmosphere. Many thanks to the event designer and organizer, Renande Loyaza, without whom this celebration would not have been possible. Thank you also to the NNHS FORJ volunteers, and community partners including The Harmony Foundation, Newton Community Pride, Historic Newton and Stop and Shop. Hope to see you at Juneteenth 2022!
